CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize Nearly $2.6 Million in Cocaine; Two Arrested

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this weekend seized cocaine valued at nearly $2.6 million which resulted in the arrest of two vehicle passengers from San Antonio . The cocaine seizure occurred on July 9, 2011 during a routine examination at Camino Real International Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 2007 Honda Civic driven by a 23-year-old man with a 32-year-old female passenger, both U.S. citizens from San Antonio , for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers noted discrepancies within the vehicle. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the rocker panels and discovered 36 packages containing a total of 81 pounds of cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of nearly $2.6 million.
CBP officers turned the male driver and female passenger over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
“Our frontline CBP officers kept up their vigilance and utilizing a combination of experience, canines and technology seized a significant amount of cocaine,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass.
