EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this weekend seized cocaine valued at $1.9 million from a vehicle driven by a San Antonio man. The seizure occurred on July 16, 2011 during a routine examination at Eagle Pass Bridge I. A CBP officer referred a 2004 Dodge Durango driven by a 25-year-old male U.S. citizen from San Antonio for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers noted discrepancies within the vehicle. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the vehicle and discovered 30 packages containing a total of nearly 60 pounds of alleged cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.9 million.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation. “This is a significant interception of cocaine and underscores the commitment of our frontline CBP officers to protect the border and stem the flow of narcotics onto American streets,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass.
