FREE TRADE ZONE #94 INTEREST INCREASES

As the administrator of Free Trade Zone #94, the Laredo International Airport has seen a recent increase in interest from Laredo logistics and distribution companies wanting to take advantage of the FTZ program.  A Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is a site within the USA that is legally considered outside of the U.S. Customs territory, so goods may be brought into the site duty-free without customs formal entry.  Importers/Exporters who previously moved goods via In-Bond are now considering activating a FTZ at their facility.  In cases where their facility is not within a given site, they can apply for a temporary boundary modification allowing them 36 months to file a permanent application with the FTZ board in Washington, D.C.

There are currently 10 Trade Zone Sites (7 active) in Laredo, including the Laredo International Airport, Killam Industrial Park, Unitec Industrial Park, Embarcadero Industrial Park, Uni-Trade Forwarding, Kuehne+Nagel, Inc., and the most recent addition, PG Distribution LLC.  Within the 2,569 acres of FTZ #94, there are currently 22 operators that have the ability to offer Free Trade Zone services to their clients.  LRD continues to work with various logistics/distribution companies in Laredo that have begun the process to become FTZ operators in Laredo.

For up-to-date airline, weather, and event information at the Laredo International Airport, LRD can now be followed on Facebook.  At the same time, LRD is currently re-designing its website to be more user friendly and informative to those looking for information on the airport and airport services.  Until the new website has been created, the previous version will remain active.

The Laredo International Airport had the privilege of giving an airport tour to students from Borchars Elementary School’s second grade and Arndt Elementary kindergarten classes on May 27th and June 1st respectively.  Students were given a tour of the terminal and a tour of the Laredo Airport Fire Station #6 all while learning about the day-to-day operations of the airport.
