CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize $48,000 in Marijuana

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this week seized marijuana valued at $48,000 during a routine vehicle examination. The seizure occurred on June 8, 2011 at Eagle Pass International Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup driven by a 26-year-old Mexican citizen for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered anomalies throughout the vehicle. After conducting an intensive search, CBP officers discovered 62 packages containing a total of nearly 48 pounds of marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $48,000.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation and seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
