CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize 183 Pounds of Marijuana during Memorial Day Weekend

 EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry kept their eyes sharp amid Memorial Day weekend traffic and seized 183 pounds of marijuana from a vehicle driven by a Laredo man.  The seizure occurred on May 27, 2011 at Camino Real International Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 1999 Dodge van driven by a 25-year-old male U.S. citizen from Laredo , Texas for a secondary examination. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the vehicle and discovered 78 packages containing a total of 183 pounds of alleged marijuana hidden in the roof.  The marijuana has an estimated street value of $183,000.

 CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.

 “Our frontline officers remained vigilant and utilized their training, experience, canines and high-tech tools to interdict yet another significant load of alleged narcotics,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Our CBP officers’ continued resolve to uphold the CBP mission helps keep our borders secure.”
