Summer of Suspense at the Laredo Public Library

(Laredo, TX –) Thunder crashes, lightening strikes and the lights go out. A clock tolls the midnight hour, an owl hoots and a door creaks. A hand reaches across the dark . . . . and you jump in your chair, as you realize, it’s just your husband waking you from a very vivid dream about the latest mystery novel the Laredo Public Library New Mystery Book Club is reading.
This summer, the Laredo Public Library will be hosting the New Mystery Book Club as its Adult Summer Reading program.
“I have wanted to do a mystery book club for a couple of years now and people have been asking for one too, so this should be a nice experiment for anyone who really likes to read a good old fashion suspenseful page turner,” Said Pam Burrell, librarian and coordinator of Adult Programming at the Library. “Mysteries are good, easy reads for people sometimes because we all want to find out ‘who did it,’ so the story really keeps people engaged until the end.”
During the summer, the regular Gateway City Book Lovers Club will suspend their regular monthly meetings, while the New Mystery Book Club will meet on those previously scheduled regular meetings: the third Wednesday of the month.
The initial meeting for the New Mystery Book Club will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2011, at the Laredo Public Library Conference Room, 1st Floor, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., where the first book up for discussion in June will be distributed. As a bonus, the first 10 people that attend the first meeting and join the club will receive an autographed copy of the thriller Darkness Falls by the best-selling author Kyle Mills.
There is no cost or registration fee to join club and participants can join attend any discussion meeting night.
