DEL RIO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry this week apprehended a Texas Panhandle-area man wanted on two outstanding warrants for aggravated sexual assault of a child. The apprehension occurred on May 14, 2011 at Del Rio International Bridge . A CBP officer referred a truck driven by Filemon Martinez Medina, a 20-year-old male Mexican citizen from Silverton , Texas for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers verified Martinez Medina’s identity and confirmed he had two outstanding state warrants from Childress and Swisher counties, respectively, for aggravated sexual assault of a child. After confirming the warrants were active, CBP officers turned Martinez Medina over to the custody of Del Rio police officers for transport to a local jail pending extradition proceedings. CBP filed a detainer ensuring return to CBP custody upon final adjudication of the state charges.
“The apprehension of a man wanted on multiple charges involving aggravated sexual assault of a child illustrates the important border security function our CBP officers perform at the Del Rio Port of Entry,” said Michael Perez, CBP Port Director, Del Rio.
