ALLEGIANT BEGINS ORLANDO SERVICE

Airport continues to invest in the future…

On May 20, 2011, the first Allegiant flight from Laredo International Airport to Orlando-Stanford Airport taxied from the gate at 7:05pm.  129 passengers were aboard the inaugural flight destined for the home of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World.  The flight left the tarmac under a good-luck display by the Laredo Firefighters canon display and a waving crowd on the taxiway that included Mayor Raul G. Salinas, Councilman Juan Narvaez, members of the Laredo Airport Advisory Committee and special guests.

 Allegiant will provide non-stop service from Laredo to Orlando-Stanford Airport through the month of August.  There were 115 aboard the second flight on Monday, May 23, 2011 and 131 tickets that have been purchased for next Friday’s flight to Orlando.  The Allegiant flights to Las Vegas continue to be close to sold-out  The load factor (% of seats sold) on Allegiant through 2011 is 91%.

 At the May 16, 2011 City Council meeting, the City Council approved the base bid of $2,310,000.00 of Zertuche Construction of Laredo, TX for the construction of a new Federal Inspection Service Station (FIS) to be located on the west side of the airport next to the old passenger terminal.  This facility will greatly improve the competitiveness of our airport and allow for the faster and more efficient clearance of both international cargo and private/corporate passenger traffic.

 Renovations are nearly complete on the old passenger terminal located on the west side of the airport alongside the cargo apron.  This terminal will be ready to serve future expansion of aeronautical activity and is strategically located next to the new FIS Station.

 Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Operations increased 26% for the month of April compared to March 2011.  The Laredo International Airport had 7,092 operations, its highest number of flight operations for one month during 2011.

 From January 2011 to April 2011, Air Cargo landed at the Laredo International Airport has increase 62% over the same time period in 2010.  Air Cargo carriers such as Northern Air Cargo, Kallita, Charters, Ameristar Jet Charter, and USA Jets have seen a steady increase in business along with UPS, ATI/BAX Global, and FedEx
