Volunteers to be Honored, Recognized for Contributions to Laredo
“Throughout history, there have been individuals willing to voluntarily give of their time, effort and resources to help their community,” says Mayor Salinas. “It is the City of Laredo’s pleasure to honor them.” The City of Laredo Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center encourages and provides opportunities for citizen participation in city government operations, as well as assisting local nonprofit organizations, while improving the quality of life in Laredo.
In 2011, the City of Laredo Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center recruited and placed 429 volunteers who worked over 37,746 man hours of service for the citizens of the city; and the value of the work performed by these volunteers represents a savings to the city and the community of $252,523in hourly wages, an increase of 80 volunteers; 5,106 man hours and $34,160.
The City of Laredo Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Center will continue to grow and improve by providing more opportunities to the citizens of Laredo to volunteer their time and talents. According to Diana Fullerton, Non-Profit and Volunteer Center manager, volunteers touch lives and lift spirits.
On Thursday, those volunteers who went above and beyond the call of public service will be honored and recognized at a merienda at the Laredo Public Library. The Volunteer of the Year and the STAR Volunteer will be honored.
