Thus final concert in the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestras’ 32nd Season features the winner of the 2nd Annual Concerto Competition held at TAMIU this past Sunday – Justin Balli. Balli is a senior at TAMIU where he is majoring in music and is a student of Brendan Townsend.
Also on the program are two pieces that are sure to cause a stir: The world Premiere of “Connections” by TAMIU assistant professor of Music, Dr. David Manuel Garcia brings together some of the local flavors of the rich cultural heritage of this area and connects them to a more “classical” style. And opening the second half of the concert will be the Fanfare for the Common Man – Aaron Copland’s short but emphatic Fanfare celebrating life, liberty and happiness. Joining the Brass of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra will be students from each of the area High Schools spread around the hall to give a true “Surround Sound.”
The program opens with the delicious romantic sounds of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel Overture and the season concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 – a lively and upbeat work that embodies a spirit of happiness and “Spring.”
Admission: $25adults / $17 Seniors / Students are free
