EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this week apprehended a San Antonio man wanted on an outstanding warrant for sexual assault of a child. The apprehension occurred on April 25, 2011 at Camino Real International Bridge . A CBP officer referred a vehicle containing passenger Roberto Maldonado Ibarra, a 34-year-old male Mexican citizen from San Antonio , Texas for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers verified Maldonado Ibarra’s identity and confirmed he had an outstanding state warrant from San Antonio , Texas for sexual assault of a child. After confirming the warrant was active, CBP officers turned Maldonado Ibarra over to the custody of Maverick County sheriff’s deputies for transport to a local jail pending extradition proceedings.
“This is an excellent fugitive apprehension by our frontline CBP officers and comes on the heels of a similar apprehension last month for a man wanted on sexual assault charges involving a child,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Conducting thorough examinations and detaining and apprehending people who have outstanding warrants, particularly those of a violent or sexual nature, is an important component to our border security work at the port of entry.”
