Emergency Telecommunicators or 9-1-1 operators are always on the line waiting to take a call in an emergency, a service available to everyone at any time of the day or night. It takes a sound operation with good management to keep this vital public service operating at a consistent level. These operations are referred to as Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in industry lingo and have a system of operators and management together with the 9-1-1 regional administrator to make it all work. As the 9-1-1 regional administrator, the City of Laredo will be recognizing the personnel from the PSAPs locally and the region tomorrow at this special ceremony.
This event will also highlight the Telecommunicator of the Year; the Laredo Police Department’s Silent Hero Nominee for the State of Texas Award; and three very special young children, who, thanks to a call to 9-1-1 were able to save their grandfather’s life after he suffered heat stroke.
