LPD Sergeant Graduates as a Police Polygraphists in Austin

  Sergeant Luis Martinez a 15 year veteran of the Laredo Police Department was recently trained and certified as a Police Polygraphist in Austin, Texas at the Texas Department of Public Safety Academy.  The Laredo Police Department has out sourced the use of a Polygraph examiner in Police candidate background checks and other criminal investigations.  Now having an officer of the department certified to conduct these types of examinations will greatly be a cost benefit to the city and increase efficiency in investigations.  Sergeant Martinez successfully met the requirements of the training and graduated as a certified Police Polygraphist on March 11, 2011 at the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division Auditorium in Austin, Texas.  The graduation was attended by the family of Sergeant Martinez and Chief Carlos Maldonado, Assistant Chief Gilbert Navarro, and Deputy Chief Guillermo Perez.  The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Law Enforcement Polygraph School is dedicated to providing quality education to government and law enforcement students in the professional field of polygraph.

  The 10 week Texas DPS Law Enforcement Polygraph School in Austin, Texas is taught by a nationally renowned faculty and is accredited by the American Polygraph Association (APA). It is also recognized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the American Association of Police Polygraphists (AAPP), and the Texas Association of Law Enforcement Polygraph Investigators (TALEPI).

 The Texas DPS Law Enforcement Polygraph School class 19 commenced on January 3, 2011 and concluded on March 11, 2011, with a Graduation Ceremony certifying 17 Law Enforcement Officers from around the United States and Military personnel from the country of Singapore.  Coursework consisted of over 400 hours of intensive classroom study and polygraph examinations. The course was designed to ensure the graduate will be a competent polygraph examiner, equipped with the knowledge necessary to conduct conclusive polygraph examinations in a professional and ethical manner. Academic deficiency/failure— all students must maintain a 75 percent grade average through week five of the school, and an 80 percent grade average to graduate the school.

 In the past 16 years, the school has trained over 350 examiners in the United States and abroad. These individuals have been instrumental in solving thousands of felony crimes at a great sacrifice to themselves and their families.
