( Laredo, TX) After six months as an independent bookstore owner, Mary Benavides has decided to close up shop as she prepares to make way for Books-A-Million, a bookstore chain based in Arkansas that is expected to open up a store in the next few months. “This has been an extremely rewarding and exciting experience for me,” said Benavides, who after managing B.Dalton bookseller, Laredo’s only bookstore for 30 years, opened her own private boutique, Laredo Books & More, after the Barnes & Noble owned store shuttered its doors. “Many of my customers still wanted to purchase books, I was able to provide books and resources for a local school district, I helped the One City, One Book program continue and I assisted the Laredo Public Library with their used book sales and other library activities.”
The store will currently liquidate all inventory within the next few weeks, or until all material is gone. New books are 40% off, excluding special orders. Laredo Books & More is located on the second floor of the Laredo Public Library at 1120 East Calton. Benavides has signed on to become manager of the new Books-A-Million bookstore which will open at Mall Del Norte sometime in mid-May. The bookstore chain will host a job fair this Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Mall Del Norte, located at 5300 San Dario Avenue. For more information, contact 334-9056.
