CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize $1.1 Million in Cocaine; Two North Carolina Men Arrested

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this weekend seized $1.1 million in cocaine and arrested two North Carolina men in connection with this enforcement action. The seizure occurred on March 11, 2011 during a routine examination at Camino Real International Bridge . 
A CBP officer referred a 2003 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 24-year-old man with a 20-year-old male passenger, both U.S. citizens from Matthews, N.C., for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers noted discrepancies in the rear part of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, CBP officers discovered 34 packages containing a total of 36.6 pounds of cocaine hidden within the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.1 million.
CBP officers turned the driver and passenger over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
“This is a significant quantity of hard narcotics and this seizure shows that our frontline CBP officers are resolute in their commitment to the CBP mission,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Keeping hard narcotics off American streets is a tangible and beneficial result of CBP officers performing their inspectional work every day.”
