LPD Seizes 4 Million Dollars worth of Methamphetamines and Heroin

 A routine traffic stop leads to the seizure of 4 million dollars worth of Methamphetamines and Heroin.  Last night, Thursday February 10, 2011, an LPD patrol officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee on Interstate 35 south bound lane at Mile Marker 3.  The driver identified as Blanca Estela Abundez, , had several bundles in a black bag in the back seat of the vehicle. Routine questioning of the driver about the bundles made the driver appear nervous.  The driver then gave consent to search the contents of the vehicle to the police officer.  16 small tightly packed bundles were found in the bag.  The LPD narcotics and vice division were called out to the location and upon further inspection of the packets discovered the 8 kilos of Methamphetamines and 8 kilos Heroin.  The driver was taken into custody and was taken LPD headquarters for further investigation. 

 Hector BenavidesUpon further investigation into the case, LPD Narcotics Unit worked throughout the evening and most of the morning which led them to a residence in the 4100 block of Marcy.   An all day surveillance of the suspected drug house led LPD narcotics officers to the knock on the door and spoke to the owner of the house.  The suspect was identified as Hector Benavides, who gave consent to search the house which led to the discovery of 19 Kilos of Methamphetamines.  The total estimated worth of the Narcotics is estimated to be worth over 4 million dollars.  Both Abundez and Benavides were arrested and charged with Possession of a controlled substance Felony 1.  No bond.
