LISD Celebrates Read Across America Week

Laredo Independent School District will be celebrating Read Across America Week February 21-25. Every year in celebration of “Read Across America” millions of young readers, including Laredo ISD students join National Education Association (NEA) in promoting reading through many activities.
This year LISD librarians will host special activities throughout the week to promote “Literacy.” On Monday, February 21, The LISD Library and Media Services Department will start the celebration with a Proclamation Ceremony at the LISD Board Room starting at 10:00 a.m.
Below you will find a schedule of district wide events. In addition, March 2nd will be Dr. Seuss’ 107th Birthday and “Read Across America Day.”
Monday, February 21
Election Day in Seussville – Vote for your favorite Dr. Seuss book online.
Window for voting is Feb. 21th-Feb. 25th.
Tuesday, February 22
Cat in the Hat Day – wear a Stovepipe Hat (like the character in the book, The Cat in the Hat) or any hat.
School cafeteria staff will participate by wearing a stove pipe hat.
Wednesday, February 23
Wacky Socks Day – wear crazy socks.
Thursday, February 24
Green Grinch Day – wear green attire
Birthday Celebration – Child Nutrition Program will serve Green Eggs and Ham for breakfast at all school cafeterias.
Friday, February 25
“Dear Dr. Seuss Time” – Drop everything and read a book
