Laredo, TX—February 2, 2011—City of Laredo Planning & Zoning Director Keith Selman submitted an official letter to City Manager Carlos Villarreal on January 18, 2011, announcing his intention to retire.  His last day with the City of Laredo will be on Friday, February 4, 2011.

“Keith has served the City of Laredo with integrity, passion and professionalism,” said Villarreal.  “His guidance and input will be sorely missed among City administrators.  Someone with his years of experience and leadership will not be easy to replace, but fortunately, he helped develop many employees during his tenure with the City of Laredo and knowing that a little bit of his work ethic and philosophy still guides the City of Laredo is comforting,” he concluded.

“I would like to thank Keith for his years of service to the city and wish him much success in his future endeavors,” said Mayor Raul G. Salinas.

Selman holds a bachelor of science in the field of Geography from the University of South Alabama and a Masters in City and Regional Planning from Clemson University.  After finishing his studies, which included a semester of urban design in Genoa, Italy, he applied his skills in the Peace Corps in the Solomon Islands where he advised provincial leaders on development issues.  Over the last 20 years, Selman has served in the City of Laredo Planning & Zoning Department, where he was director of the department for 14 years, as well as the Metropolitan Planning Director.

“…It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve the citizenry of Laredo over the last several years,” read a portion of the letter submitted by Selman.
