DEL RIO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Del Rio Port of Entry on Tuesday stopped an alleged alien smuggling attempt involving a former U.S. Customs inspector.  The enforcement action occurred on Feb. 15, 2011 as a CBP officer at Del Rio International Bridge referred a 2010 Nissan X-Terra driven by a 58-year-old male U.S. citizen from Del Rio for a secondary examination. A 38-year-old female passenger allegedly claimed to be a U.S. citizen and presented a Texas birth certificate as an entry document. During secondary examination, CBP officers determined that the woman was a Mexican citizen from Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila , Mexico with no valid entry documents and the birth certificate did not belong to her.

CBP officers processed the driver, a former U.S. Customs inspector who at the time of entry was wearing a U.S. Postal Service uniform, and passenger for alleged violations of immigration law. CBP also seized the vehicle in connection with this enforcement action.

“Our officers employed excellent inspection and document analysis skills to uncover a significant alleged immigration law violation involving a former U.S. Customs inspector,” said Michael Perez, CBP Port Director, Del Rio . “We do not tolerate alleged misconduct by anyone who was sworn to defend the U.S. constitution and our officers remain committed to keeping our borders secure and upholding federal law.”
