LAREDO, TEXAS – The Import Specialist Enforcement Team (ISET) at U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Laredo Port of Entry targeted and seized more than a quarter-million counterfeit DVD cases valued at $96,600 that allegedly infringed on the registered DVD trademark.

CBP import specialists from the Laredo ISET team in mid-December targeted a manifested shipment containing 2,760 cartons of DVD cases for an enforcement examination. During the examination, conducted at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge , CBP import specialists and officers observed that the cartons contained cases bearing the DVD trademark, which is trademark recorded with CBP. When CBP sought a letter of authorization for use of the DVD registered trademark from the importing party, none was ever provided. CBP officers and import specialists later determined the 270,600 DVD cases to be counterfeit and seized them on Feb. 9. The shipment has an estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $96,600 and a domestic value of $29,518.

“This is the second significant seizure by our ISET team in less than a month of a shipment that allegedly infringed on a registered trademark for goods related to the electronics industry,” said Joe Uribe, Acting CBP Port Director, Laredo . “Our import specialists and CBP officers in Laredo are keeping their eyes sharp and using their vast experience with a variety of commodities to stop alleged counterfeit goods at the border and help protect the American consumer and the registered trademark holders.”
