SATURDAY FLU MIST AND SHOT CLINIC

flumistCourtesy Rebecca Alvarez,

Laredo, TX – According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu activity is increasing in the United States. As we continue to see an increase in flu cases locally, the City of Laredo Health Department (CLHD) wants to encourage the public to take advantage of a simple and safe way to help protect your health. To make flu prevention easier, CLHD will be hosting a Saturday Flu Mist and Shot Clinic.

The cost for the seasonal flu vaccine for adults is $20.00. Vaccines and Flu Mist will be FREE for ages 18 and under and for those with Medicare Part B Recipients (please bring your card).

The flu shot cannot cause the flu illness. People may be exposed to one of the influenza viruses in the vaccine shortly before getting vaccinated or during the two-week period that it takes the body to gain protection after getting vaccinated, which may result in a person becoming ill with flu before protection from the vaccine takes effect.

In addition to getting the flu vaccine, other preventive measures include:

  • Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it and wash your hands.
  • If you cough, cough into your elbow, sleeve, or into tissues.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
  • Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Do not share personal items that may be contaminated with respiratory droplets.
