Time Warner Cable customers with older model TVs, no converter boxes, and basic tier packages to be affected

(Laredo, TX ) As of last week, Time Warner Cable will digitized the local Public Access Channels, which are currently channels 2, 3, 13, 17 and 18.   The digitization of the public access channels will affect customers with traditional CRT television sets, or better known as “tube TVs,” with the basic-tier package (Channels 2-22) and who do not have a Time Warner Cable converter box. Customers without a converter box will not be able to watch public access channels after this date.

These customers are urged to contact Time Warner Cable as soon as possible to obtain a free converter box. The free box offer will be made to existing and to new Time Warner Cable customers. Time Warner Cable has agreed to provide free installation to the elderly people 64 years or older; customers with disabilities; and low income customers. The free box offer will be available for at least 60 days after the channels are digitized. The earliest this free offer will end is March 20, 2011.

Time Warner Cable customers who have the extended basic-tier package (Channels 2- 78) and do not have a converter box will also be affected.

Only one free converter box will be provided per television set; additional converter boxes can be acquired for a monthly fee.  The one free converter box will be given to customers with the basic tier package at no cost for five years.  After that, a service charge will be assessed.  For customers with the extended basic-tier package, that free converter box is for only year only.  After one year, a service fee is assessed.

Time Warner Cable Customers can acquire a new converter box by calling Time Warner Cable 55 or (956) 721-0600; or, by visiting the local Time Warner Retail Center located at 1313 Calton Road.
