City of Laredo Proclamation, Council Recognitions

(Laredo, Tx) Mayor Pro Tempore Johnny Rendon, subbing for City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas who is in Washington, D.C. today for the Winter Conference of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, joined by Sandra Rocha Taylor, executive director for Laredo Main Street and the LMS Board, helped to proclaim January 29, 2011 as Ueta Jamboozie Day in Laredo, Texas. This grand street party reacquaints Laredoans and tourists alike with the beautiful Laredo historic downtown district. The celebrated occasion, which is an official event during the annual Washington’s Birthday Celebration festivities in January and February, features a variety of music, including Jazz, Rock, Dixieland, Tejano, Country, Salsa and this year will feature Grammy Award winners Texas Tornados plus “Pete Astudillo y Ruido Anejo.” The festival attracts visitors from all areas of the State and is the official kick-off event of the Washington’s Birthday Festival.
Later, Laredo International Airport Manager Jose L. Flores and airport operations manager Humberto Garza were on hand to receive the presentation of the prestigious 2009 FAA Southwest Region Airport Safety Award Plaque to the City of Laredo by Joe Washington, Manager, FAA Southwest Region Safety and Standards Branch and Mike Nicely, Manager, FAA Texas Development Office.
Finally, Ana Gutierrez Volpe of the Society of Martha Washington, invited the mayor and council members, along with the entire City of Laredo, to the annual Colonial Pageant Ball, that will be held on February 18, 2011 at the Laredo Civic Center. Joining her were this year’s George and Martha Washington.
