EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on Monday utilized their inspection skills and seized alleged cocaine valued at $2.2 million in a vehicle driven by a local woman.
The seizure occurred on Jan. 10 at the Camino Real Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by a 34-year-old female U.S. citizen from Eagle Pass for a secondary examination. In secondary, CBP officers discovered anomalies in the gas tank area and further inspection revealed 30 packages that contained 71 pounds of alleged cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $2.2 million.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
“This is a significant amount of hard narcotics and it underscores not only the seriousness of the drug threat our officers face every day, but also illustrates their effectiveness at using good inspection experience together with high-tech tools,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass.
