LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry maintained their vigilance this New Year’s weekend and seized more than a ton of marijuana hidden in a commercial truck.  The seizure occurred on Dec. 31 at the World Trade Bridge . A CBP officer referred a 1995 International trailer hauling a manifested shipment of galvanized wire driven by a 36-year-old male Mexican citizen from Nuevo Laredo , Tamaulipas , Mexico for a secondary examination. In secondary, CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the tractor trailer and discovered 102 packages commingled with the shipment that contained 2,494 pounds of alleged marijuana.  The marijuana has an estimated street value of $2.4 million.  CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.

“Our officers maintain a steady state of vigilance during the holiday season and their attention to detail yielded a significant seizure of narcotics in the commercial environment on the last day of the calendar year,” said Joe Uribe, Acting CBP Port Director, Laredo .
