Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies Seize Over Two Tons of Marijuana on Highway 83 South

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at approximately 6:20 a.m., Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 83 south and Prada Machin Road on a Kenworth truck tractor white in color pulling a gravel trailer. Deputies conducted roadside interview which led Deputies to a cursory check of the suspected vehicle. Deputies continued with a K-9 search which resulted in a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. After a detailed search was conducted on the trailer, Deputies discovered 196 bundles wrapped in cellophane containing green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. The marijuana weighed approximately 4,448 pounds and has an estimated street value $2,250,688.
“ This investigation is continuing. We have seized a significant amount of marijuana which would have landed on the streets of Webb County, we are proud of our Deputies in staying alert in order to continue to make seizures of this magnitude.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
