Local Youth Teams Compete for State Championships

Heat ’91 Boys Red Win Under 19 Title 

The Fall 2010 South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA) Season concluded this weekend in Corpus Christi with the STYSA State Championship Tournament at Bill Witt Soccer Park. All three teams representing the Laredo Area Youth Soccer Association (LAYSA) and the Gateway City played well with one team actually winning a state title to bring home. 

In the Under 19 / 18 Division, the Laredo Heat ’91 Boys Red captured the STYSA Super II State Championship with victories over the El Paso Hooligans ’93 (4 – 2) on Saturday and with a victory over the Westbury (Houston) Sounders ’92 (1 – 0) on Sunday. The Heat ’91 Boys also defeated the Tornado Soccer Club ’92 Boys from New Braunfels by a score of 2 – 0 in the opening game of the tournament. The Under 19 / 18 Boys lost their last game by a score of 1 – 0 to the National Fusion ’92 Boys from Houston; however, the state title had already been clinched by the time the fourth game was played since the winner was decided on the total points accumulated in round robin play.

 The Heat ’91 Boys Red are coached by Israel Collazo and managed by Team Manager Sandra Villegas. Team members include Alex Anderson (Alexander High School), Rodrigo Avila (Alexander High School), Jorge Barroso (United High School), Guillermo Cantu (LBJ High School), Jose “Wayo” Gonzalez (Alexander High School), Omar Lopez (LBJ High School), Daniel Marin (United High School), Ricky Mejia (Cigarroga High School), Gabriel Muniz (LBJ High School), Armando Pedrote (Martin High School), Oscar Perez (United High School), Jesus Reynoso (LBJ High School), Jonathon Romero (United High School), Francisco Ruiz (Alexander High School), Jorge Vasquez (United South High School), Ali Velazco (Alexander High School), Eluid Villareal (St. Augustine High School), Erick Zamudio (United High School), Aaron Zuniga (United High School) and Miguel Zuniga ((United High School). 

The Generation ’94 Boys Soccer Club placed 2nd in the Super II Under 17 Division with a record of 1 – 1 – 1. Generation tied their opening match by a score of 2 – 2 against the Sugar Land Shadows Boys 93. In their second match of the day on Saturday, Generation lost 4 – 0 versus eventual champion National Fusion ’94 Boys from Houston. In their final match of round robin play, Generation was able to seal its sole victory of the tournament with a 3 – 0 win over Fusion ’94 from San Antonio. 

The Generation ’94 Boys are coached by Ruben Vallejo and Cosme Ordonez. Team members include Aldo Casillas (Alexander High School), Nick Coronado (United High School), Santiago de Luna (Instituto Royal de Nuevo Laredo), Miguel Duarte (United High School), Agustin Ferreira (United High School), Jorge Fisher (Alexander High School), Hector Flores (Untied High School), Oscar Garibay (United High School), Jose Gonzalez (United High School), Francisco Nunez (Instituto Royal de Nuevo Laredo), Cosme Ordonez (United High School), David Quezada Jarero (Instituto Royal de Nuevo Laredo), Roberto Ramos (United High School), Edgar Reyes (United High School) and Ruben Vallejo (United High School).

 

The Laredo Heat ’96 Boys White managed only a 0 – 2 – 1 record and placed last in their bracket. The Heat ’96 Boys White opened with a 3 – 2 loss to eventual champion South Belt Select Joga Bonito from Houston and then later that Saturday afternoon suffered their second loss, a 2 – 0 shutout, at the hands of the Inner City Rayados from  Houston. On Sunday, the Under 15 boys managed a 0 – 0 tie versus the UHO Vipers 96 Boys from Austin.

 

The Laredo Heat ’96 Boys White is coached by Juan de Dios Ibarra and Fernando Hernandez. Team members include Ivan Bautista (LBJ High School), Bryand Castaneda (Alexander High School), Gabriel Cervantes (Nixon High School), Emiliano Esparza (United Middle School), Angel Garza (Colegio Irlandes)), Victor Gomez (Cigarroga High School), Cesar Guerrero (United High School), Manuel Lara (LBJ High School), Fernando Maciel (LBJ High School), Pedro Martinez (United High School), Carlos Naisir (United High School), Elias Perales (United South Middle School), Humberto Perez (United High School), Mario Pomar (United High School), Jorge Rocha (Alexander High School) and Luis Romero (Alexander High School).

 

The Laredo Area Youth Soccer Association (LAYSA) is a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Organization and is the only youth soccer association in Laredo and Webb County affiliated and sanctioned by the South Texas Youth Soccer Association and United States Youth Soccer. LAYSA serves Laredo, Webb County and surrounding counties.
