WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar on Thursday brought together local leaders from the area to discuss funding opportunities for wastewater and drainage projects.

During the videoconference, representatives from several state and federal agencies spoke with the participants and discussed ways on how best to apply for these types of funds.

“Because of today’s trying economic times, it is hard for communities in my district to travel to Washington and meet with federal agencies. This is why I decided to bring Washington to the district via videoconferencing,” said Congressman Cuellar. “I understand and recognize the importance of these types of funds for our communities. This is why it is extremely important for them to understand and become familiar with the funding process.”

Local leaders participating in the videoconference included: Gabino Cerda, Rafael Vidaurri, James Flores, John Amaya, Fitzgeraldo Sanchez, all of Webb County; Melissa L. Gonzalez, of the City of Dilley; Mario Botello, of the City of  Rio Bravo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department; and Audelia Hernandez, of Zapata County.

Participating agencies included U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Commerce, Texas Water Development Board, and Texas Division of Emergency Management
