CBP Officers at Del Rio Port of Entry Seize $92,000 in Marijuana from Kerrville Woman

 DEL RIO, TEXASU.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry this weekend seized marijuana valued at $92,000 from a vehicle driven by a Kerrville , Texas woman during a routine inspection. The marijuana seizure occurred on Dec. 4, 2010 at the international bridge. A CBP officer referred a 1994 Dodge Durango driven by a 36-year-old female U.S. citizen from Kerrville , Texas for a secondary examination. In secondary, CBP officers noticed discrepancies in the spare tire area. A non-intrusive imaging system scan indicated anomalies within the vehicle. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the vehicle and seized 80 packages containing a total of 92 pounds of marijuana hidden in the spare tire and quarter panels. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $92,000.

 CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation and seized the vehicle and the contraband.

 “As the holiday season approaches, our frontline officers maintain a high degree of vigilance in order to intercept loads of contraband that may mix in with the increased vehicular traffic. This latest seizure is a direct result of that vigilance,” said Michael Perez, CBP Port Director, Del Rio .
