(Laredo, TX  Nov 23, 2010)  As the City of Laredo prepares for its annual NavidadFest Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the event’s new location has created a new and exciting opportunity for local merchants who may want to get in the holiday spirit. This year, the parade will start at the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot and head south down San Bernardo Avenue, culminating at the Laredo Civic Center, where the official City of Laredo Christmas tree will be lit.  All San Bernardo Avenue merchants are encouraged to decorate and light their businesses, in a friendly competition for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies, and of course, bragging rights for the winning businesses.

“Part of the magic of the Christmas season is to see twinkling lights in traditional, silly, or even religious decorations,” said Council Member Cindy Liendo Espinoza, a principal organizer of the contest and event.  “With the ‘Luces En La Avenida’ lighting contest along Laredo’s historic and famed San Bernardo Avenue, we will not only beautify the street, it will give Laredoans and other visitors one more reason to shop along this area,” she concluded.

There is no entry fee, but businesses along San Bernardo Avenue wishing to enter must submit their application to Liendo Espinoza to become registered in the contest.  Judging will be done by KLDO-Univision and will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 8 PM, but the winners will not be announced until the next evening at the NavidadFest Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Businesses can download the entry form from the City of Laredo website at www.cityoflaredo.com and fax the entry form to 726-5575, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010.  For more information, call 791-7461.
