Deputies led a handcuffed Raymond Jasso into the 406th District Court where he pled guilty to both Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.   The charges arose from the shooting of his two nephews that took place the night of January 17, 2010.  Numerous witnesses, including a surviving victim, told police that the defendant and two nephews; Jeremy and Jesus Jasso, were drinking together on the front porch of the defendant’s home located at 3017 Pine Street.  When an argument arose, witnesses stated that Jesus attempted to stop the arguing by reminding all parties that ‘they were family’ but the arguing continued until, according to another witness, the defendant walked inside, grabbed a 22. caliber handgun, went back onto the front porch and said “Ya me cansastes” and shot both of his nephews in the back.

Twenty-six year old, Jesus Raul Jasso, Jr., was pronounced dead at the hospital due to injuries sustained.  The medical examiner found two gunshot wounds; the second shot to the right lower back entered the abdominal cavity resulting in internal bleeding that led to his death.

A single bullet remains lodged in the lower back of Jesus’ brother, twenty-five year old Jeremy Jasso.

Melinda Vidaurri, Chief Prosecutor for the Domestic Violence Unit, negotiated the plea agreement on behalf of the State of Texas.  In exchange for his guilty plea, the defendant will serve forty years for one count of Murder and twenty years for one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  The Honorable Judge Oscar Hale, Jr. formally sentenced Raymond AKA Raymundo Jasso .  The sentences will run concurrently.

The prosecutor on the case expressed that the State was able to garner the plea because of the strength of the evidence gathered by detectives from the Laredo Police Department.

Ms. Vidaurri also provided a comment, “In this case, alcohol was the key factor that led to the defendant murdering his brother’s son over a senseless argument.”
