City of Laredo to Offer Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Loans

Loans are part of a Department of Energy grants
(Laredo, TX Oct 1, 2010) The City of Laredo Environmental Services Department, with funds provided by the Department of Energy, through their Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, has established a Home Energy Efficiency Revolving Loan program. This program will provide a friendlier, more cost effective alternative for citizens who wish to improve their home energy efficiency, which may lead to immediate money savings, improve comfort and help protect the environment.
Qualified homeowners who reside within the city limits may apply for the secured loan with interest rates from 0% to 5.99% or the unsecured loan at a fixed rate of 5.99%. Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must own and occupy home;
- Must meet income limits;
- Must have a minimal credit score of 620;
- Must be a permanent home structure;
- Must be current on all property taxes;
- Must meet loan’s credit criteria;
- No other federal assistance;
All proposed materials and products must have a Department of Energy, Approved Efficiency Rating, such as Energy Star, to qualify for this loan.
“This loan could be used to purchase or upgrade to energy efficient central air and heating units, water heaters, doors, home insulation and windows, or other improvements approved by the department,” said Riazul Mia, director for the City’s Environmental Services Department.
The City of Laredo will be accepting applications from October 1, 2010 through October 8, 2010. Applications may be obtained by visiting the Environmental Services Department at 619 Reynolds, during normal business hours, or by visiting the City of Laredo website at www.cityoflaredo.com.
