A federal grant of about $1 million has made it possible to create a partnership between South Texas Training Center and Webb County to help South Texas’ top three demand occupations.
Teacher aides, truck drivers, computer literacy, and home health care workers were among some of the subjects selected utilizing information provided by South Texas Workforce Development Board and Workforce Solutions of South Texas in meeting a project goal of creating sustainable economic resources through training/certification of low income unemployed, eligible Webb County residents.
The partnership was made possible by a federal grant from the Recovery Act passed by Congress in 2009 of which Webb County received a total of $869,500.
A total of 60 individuals (total funding of $138,420) participated in a 4 week Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide training program at South Texas Training Center which enabled them to obtain the knowledge, skills, abilities, and certification essential for the provision of basic care to residents in long term facilities.
On Friday, September 10 a graduation ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm at Cesars Reception Hall, 5430 Riverside, Laredo, Texas.
