Laredo, Texas (Webb County) –The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is stepping technology to the next level.  Sheriff Martin Cuellar introduced “The Terra Hawk” yesterday morning at a press conference.  The “Terra Hawk”, a mobile surveillance unit, is designed for rapid response, ease of deployment and tactical superiority in surveillance.  It will serve as a valuable instrument in surveillance, crime deterrence and safety for Webb County.

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office, is seeking to improve on crime prevention efforts, therefore the benefits of the “Terra Hawk” were recognized since Sheriff Cuellar brought the idea to his administration.

“This elevated surveillance post, is a combination of innovative automotive technology, rapid response and the practicality of a mobile, all-terrain surveillance unit that will bring additional security to Webb County”.  Stated Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

The “Terra Hawk” uses its own vehicle to deploy an elevated tower and climate controlled capsule to an eye level height of over 25 feet. The unit can be fully deployed by one person at any location in less than two minutes without leaving the vehicle.  The “Terra Hawk” is an exclusive  version of elevated surveillance tower that does not require another vehicle, trailer or additional personnel to deploy.

The “Terra Hawk” contains an observation capsule that provides a working platform for a variety of surveillance devices such as digital and/or thermal imaging camera systems, computers, communications or radio equipment.  The capsule easily accommodates two persons with an elevated line of sight which facilitates improved crowd control management and acts as a ground force multiplier providing a superior tactical solution which is necessary to address criminal situations.

This unit is technology, designed, and perfected by professional engineers and has been thoroughly field tested.  This unit was purchased with Operation Stone Garden Grant monies.  At a price of $171,495.00.
