Earlier today, Texas State Representative Richard Pena Raymond, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and Maria G. Soliz, manager of the Laredo Public Library, welcomed Deborah Littrel, director of the Library Development Division of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to receive a $35,265 Lone Star Library grant from the organization. The money will be used for purchasing computers, software and other electronic services for the Library. Said Soliz, in thanking Rep. Raymond, Mayor Salinas and the Laredo City Council for their continued support of the Library, “Thank you for realizing that libraries are not luxuries, they are necessities.” Since 2002 when the Texas Legislature begin funding this grant, the Laredo Public Library has received almost $250,000 in Lone Star Library grant monies. Staff joined in the jubilee to receive the grant.
