(Laredo, TX Sept. 17, 2010) The Second Annual International Cycling
Circuit bike race, taking place this Sunday, September 19, 2010, is a
circuit race, which means that participants will run laps to meet the
designated length for each category of cyclists. The circuit is a 3.6
mile loop and begins from the northeast parking lot of the Laredo Energy
Arena (LEA) on Sinatra Parkway, heads north on Casa Verde Road, turns
east on University Boulevard, with a long south drive down Bob Bullock
Loop 20 before heading back to the LEA at Sinatra Parkway.
This will mean road closures along this route for motorists, until
approximately 12:00 p.m. that day.
Traffic control devices will be installed beginning at 4:00 a.m. on
Sunday, and removed by 12 noon on that same day. Motorists are
cautioned to observe all posted signals, devices and signs. Southbound
Loop 20 will be reduced to one lane for the traveling public and the
Laredo Police Department will be assisting with traffic control at
various intersections between University Blvd. and Sinatra Parkway. The
Laredo Police Department will have various patrol units and personnel
stationed along the entire cycling route to ensure compliance with all
designated traffic detours.
Residents and businesses along Casa Verde Road are encouraged to turn
south in order to access the Loop from Jacaman Road, during the race
between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19,
2010.
Spectators wishing to watch the race in the area should be cautious of
the cyclists’ right-of-way and stay along the curbs of the designated
race route. Information on traffic control for the cycling race route
may be obtained by contacting the Laredo Traffic Safety Department at
956-795-2550.
