CNG fueling station affected, fleet reduced to Sunday Service

(Laredo, TX)  The City of Laredo’s El Metro bus service has been affected by a motor pump at the CNG fueling station that has broken down.  This means that starting today, Tuesday, September 14, 2010, and continuing tomorrow, Wednesday, September 15,2 010, El Metro will be running with a reduced fleet of only 25 buses to service their normal weekly routes.  Below are the changes that riders will see today and tomorrow, so that they can be prepared for any possible delays or change in buses.

For the remainder of the day, many of the routes may be utilizing Para-Transit vans to complete the routes.  This will NOT affect regularly scheduled appointments for doctors’ appointments and other medical services for riders who regularly use El Lift para-transit vans.  There may be some delays today.

Starting tomorrow, northside bus routes (TAMIU Route 16, Shiloh Route 12A, and Las Brisas Route 12B) will be utilizing Cougar Buses for the peak hours of 7 AM to 10 AM.   Riders who take these routes from the downtown transit center will have to purchase a regular-priced bus ticket – $1.40 – in the Transit Center first floor lobby.  Riders are encouraged to arrive earlier than usual to accommodate for this transaction.  These routes will take riders to their regular schedule destinations.

Other bus routes will once again utilize Para-Transit vans to complete the routes.  Again, this will not affect regularly scheduled services for riders.

Riders should expect to have exact change ready for stops along routes.

Transfer tickets for evening riders will be given if they are requested.  Regular buses are expected to be up and running for afternoon services; however, if not, expect Para-Transit vans and additional delays to service.

A motorized pump at the CNG fueling station has broken down.  Because of the specialized nature of the pump and fuel, a replacement part is being flown in from Houston.

“We understand the extreme inconvenience we are causing our riders,” said Feliciano Garcia, director of the City of Laredo’s El Metro service.  “We ask for everyone’s patience today and tomorrow as we try to repair this motor as soon as possible, and get everyone back on the road with El Metro.”
