Broncos pull even with Edinburg in nail biting finish

(September 1st, EDINBURG, TX)-The Broncos (1-1) showed their tenacity holding on for a 6-5 win over the Edinburg Road Runners (1-1) at Edinburg Stadium to force a deciding game three tomorrow night.  Reyes Dorado got Ambiorix Concepcion to ground out with the winning run at second base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth to secure the Broncos victory.

 The Broncos had their backs against the wall after dropping game one to the Road Runners in Laredo by a score of 14-5.  RHP Juan Peralta (10-3, 1-0) was called upon by manager Dan Firova to pitch the Broncos into a deciding game three tomorrow night, Peralta faced off against RHP Wardell Starling (8-4, 0-1) of the Road Runners.

 The Broncos in the top of the first got back-to-back singles to start off the game against Starling.  The second single, off the bat of Jonel Pacheco moved Diaz to third base and Pacheco was able to move up to second on the throw. D.J Dixon hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Diaz from third and on a fielding error charged to Wilson Batista Pacheco scored to give the Broncos the 2-0 lead.

 In the bottom of the second the Road Runners loaded the bases against Peralta with a single, a walk, a sacrifice bunt and another walk. Wilmer Pino came up and hit a liner into right field that kicked up chalk and bounced out of play for a two run, two out ground ruled double that tied the game 2-2.

 The Broncos chased Starling from the game in the top of the fourth.  Back to back walks issued to Canseco and Cisneros put runners on first and second with no outs.  After a Paniagua fly out, Carlos Arroyo brought home two runs with a single to give the Broncos the 4-2 lead.  Ryan Flynn then reached on an error that scored Arroyo to make it 5-2 Broncos and Maiko Loyola singled to move Flynn to third base. Jason Diaz then faced RHP Ricardo Serrano (3-2), who came out of the Road Runner bullpen. Diaz reached on an infield single that scored Flynn from third base after Loyola’s single moved Flynn to third; 6-2 Broncos.

 Serrano walked the bases loaded for the Broncos in the top of the fifth and the Road Runners went to RHp Aaron Guerra (6-1), who induced an inning ending ground out by Maiko Loyola to dance out of the jam and keep the score 6-2 Broncos.

 Peralta showed signs of slowing down in the bottom of the sixth. With one out he allowed a single to Osiel Flores. Robert Matlock grounded into a fielder’s choice and there were two outs with a runner at first.  Peralta walked Wilmer Pino and Felix Molina laced a double down the right field line that cleared the bases and cut the Broncos lead in half; 6-4.  RHP Maximinio De La Cruz (1-3) came into the game and threw one pitch to end the sixth.

 De la Cruz retired all seven batters he faced to get the Broncos to the top of the ninth with a 6-4 lead over the Road Runners. 

 De La Cruz allowed a single to Wilmer Pino to start the bottom of the ninth and was pulled for RHP Reyes Dorado (2-0). Dorado walked the next two batters to load the bases and Daryl Jones brought home a run with an RBI fielder’s choice and the score was 6-5 Broncos.  Wilson Batista then laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved the winning run up to second base.  Ambiorix Concepcion hit a chopping ground ball that took a funny hop, Flynn gloved it in the air and threw Concepcion out at first to end the ball game.
