The Broncos win the series finale over the Colts; avoid the sweep

(August 6th, SAN ANGELO, TX) The Broncos (32-37) weathered the long ball in the series finale against San Angelo (36-32) to take the finale and avoid the sweep 10-7 over the Colts.The Broncos remain a game back of the White Wings for final playoff spot in the United League.

 The Broncos trying to get out of town with a win in San Angelo sent RHP Juan Peralta () to the mound to stop the three game slide.  RHP Brian Henschel () took the mound for the Colts attempting to complete the sweep for San Angelo.    The Broncos did exactly what they had to do to pick up a victory in San Angelo, score early and often.  In the top of the first D.J Dixon gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead with an RBI double that scored Jason Diaz and put runners on second and third.  Jonathan Cisneros came up and hit a sacrifice fly to give the Broncos a 2-0 lead. San Angelo got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, Isaaz Garcia singled and after Ronnie Gaines was hit by a pitch, Josh Collazzo brought Garcia home with an RBI double to cut the Broncos lead in half 2-1.

 Laredo continued to score in the top of the second when Nick Mahin walked to lead off the inning.  Jonathan Dziomba picked up his first RBI in a Broncos uniform with a double to make the lead 3-1 Broncos.

 David Cardona hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning, a solo shot that hugged the foul line in left field to make the score 3-2 Broncos.

 The Broncos in the top of third added another run to their lead.  With one out Jonel Pacheco singled and came home when, with two outs, Salvador Paniagua singled into center fielder Ronnie Gaines dove for and had the ball skip under his glove.  Paniagua picked up RBI number 55 on the season and gave the Broncos the 4-2 lead.

 San Angelo, after being retired in the bottom of the third in order by Peralta, scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Jason Crosland led off with a walk and Landon Camp knocked him in with an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-3 Broncos.  After Trey Carter grounded out David Cardona picked his tenth RBI of the year with a single and tied the game at 4-4.

 The Broncos offense had it’s biggest inning in the top of the sixth.  Jonathan Cisneros led off with a double and Paniagua followed with a single.  Nick Mahin then drove in the go ahead run with an RBI single and the Broncos led 5-4.  Jonathan Dziomba laid down a sacrifice bunt that the Brian Henschel threw down the right field line for an error.  The error allowed Paniagua to score and add to the Broncos lead 6-4.  With Doug Thenis at the plate a passed ball was charged to the catcher Trey Carter that allowed Mahin to score and give the Broncos a 7-4 lead.  Thennis then hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Dziomba and give the Broncos the 8-4 lead. 

 Henschel threw six innings, allowing eight hits, eight runs (six earned), he walked four and struck out just one.

San Angelo mounted a come back in the bottom of the eighth, bringing home three runs on two long balls.  A solo shot by Landon Camp to make the score 8-5 Broncos.  RHP James Maxwell (0-0) then entered the game and Trey Carter singled to bring up David Cardona, who homered for the second time in the game and it was an 8-7 Broncos lead. 

 LHP Tyler Blum (2-3) entered the game in the top of the ninth and retired the first batter he faced.  Dixon then reached on an error and Blum issued back to back walks to load the bases.  Salvador Paniagua brought a run in with a sacrifice fly followed by a passed ball charged to Colts catcher Trey Carter brought home Pacheco and gave the Broncos their second insurance run and made the score 10-7 Broncos heading to the bottom of the ninth.

 The Colts sent three men to the plate in the bottom of the ninth and RHP Reyes Dorado (0-0) picked up his third save of the game.

The Broncos will now head to Amarillo to play a four game set with the Dillas at the Dilla Villa; first pitch for game one set for 7:05 PM.  The Broncos return to Laredo Wed. August 11 through Wed.
