Sheriff Martin Cuellar Recognizes PAL Boxers

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize 15 members of the PAL (Police Activity League) boxing gym, for their participation at the RINGSIDE BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP event in Kansas City, Missouri, August 2nd – 7th, 2010.

 The young boxers, between the ages of 10-25 years competed in their respective divisions. These boxers have been training at the Webb County Sheriff’s Office PAL boxing gym for the past 3-5 years, making the sport of boxing a commitment. After two days at the Championship event, four local boxers advanced in their divisions.  These boxers were Joshua Juarez (Open Division), Albert Espinoza (Novice Division), Rodrigo Gonzalez (Open Division) and Manuel Ruvalcaba (Novice Division). By day four,  three out of the four made it to the Open and Novice level. Making it to the final day of the competition was, Joshua Juarez (Open Division) bringing home 2nd place in his division, and Albert Espinoza winning a 2nd place in the (Novice Division).

 A total of 1,500 boxers competed at the RINGSIDE BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP. Sheriff Martin Cuellar made the travel possible for two other gyms, ”Los Dos Laredos Gym” and “Davalos Boxing Gym”.

 “I will continue to support the participation of our youth at these type of events, it is important that we encourage them to represent their dedication to the sport proudly.  These boxers are committed and love the sport, their continued participation at our PAL gym will encourage them to stay away from drugs and gangs and will guide them to  become productive citizens of our community”. Stated Sheriff Martin Cuellar.

 The Webb County PAL Gym is located on Zapata Highway. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday, from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., with two professional boxers and 3 experienced volunteers, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office PAL boxing Gym continues to attract the youth of Laredo.
