Sheriff Martin Cuellar Hosted a First Annual Combined South Texas Sheriffs Summit

 Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27, 2010, Sheriff Martin Cuellar hosted several Sheriffs from throughout the region for a “Combined South Texas Sheriffs Summit”.

 Sheriffs from the South Texas region gathered in Webb County for a very informative summit that consisted of information regarding Border Crime, Use of Trains for smuggling people, Intelligence led management unit, narcotics,  Crime Lab, and Strategy to Receive Federal Funding.  Some of the presenters included Mr. Dennis Nixon  CEO and President of IBC, The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inspector General,  The Office of State Representative Richard Raymond and US Congressman Henry Cuellar.

 The purpose of this Summit was to give other Sheriff’s the opportunity to gather information and ideas to eventually improve intelligence gathering.  Webb County Sheriff’s Office has been working diligently on a master plan for a Crime Lab and a fusion center which will serve several counties in Texas.

 “I feel this summit was very successful.  A vast amount of information was shared amongst all Sheriffs present.  The response to our ideas was very positive, I am looking forward to the implementation of today’s ideas with the help of our Congressman and our State Representative, as well as other resources that are available to us”.  Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.

 Amongst the counties present were Zapata, Val Verde, Maverick, Starr, Jim Hogg, Bee County, Duval, Dimmit, Frio, Jim Wells, Brooks and Zavala.  Also joining the group was Donald Reay, Director of the Texas Border Sheriff’s Coalition.
