Santo Hernandez perfect through six innings, Broncos score seven runs in the fourth to complete sweep of Thunder

(August 2nd, LAREDO, TX) -RHP Santo Hernandez pitched six perfect innings, retiring all eighteen men he faced until the seventh inning when he allowed back-to-back singles. The Broncos (31-34) scored seven runs in the fourth frame and cruised to the 8-1 victory, sweeping the Thunder (22-41)
The Broncos entered the day tied for fourth place and needing to pick up a win to keep pace with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings who were victorious earlier in the day. RHP Santo Hernandez (6-3) went to the mound with trying to complete the four game sweep of the Coastal Bend Thunder. On the mound for the Thunder was RHP Carlos Rangel (5-6)
The Broncos through the first three innings mustered just three hits and stranded all three runners on the base paths against Rangel.
In the bottom of the fourth Laredo’s offense finally broke through. D.J Dixon his a one out double and Jonathan Cisneros brought him home one batter later with an RBI double and the score was 1-0. A pitch hit Thennis before Flynn drove in Cisneros with an RBI single to give the Broncos the 2-0 lead. Carlos Arroyo took an RBI walk with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 3-0 and Jonel Pacheco came up and crushed a grand slam over the left center field wall to make it a big inning. Broncos led 7-0 over the Thunder.
In the bottom of the fifth the Broncos added a run after Nick Mahin took a walk, Jonathan Cisneros drove him in with his second RBI double of the game and the lead was 8-0 Broncos.
Santo Hernandez was magnificent on the mound for Laredo, he pitched the first six innings perfect. Retiring all eighteen men he faced, striking out seven, picking up five fly outs and six groundouts. In the top of the seventh Mike Lewis broke up the attempt at history with a leadoff single, followed by a Ron Fenwick. Hernandez then picked up a double play ball to cut the really down and dance out of the jam, holding the Thunder scoreless through seven.
RHP Wade Townsend came into the game in the top of the eighth and allowed all three batters he faced to reach base and allowed the first Thunder run in the game on an RBI double by Alex Fernandez. RHP James Maxwell came into the game got a home to one double play with the bases loaded and then a ground out to end the threat. The Broncos took their 8-1 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth.
RHP Maximinio De La Cruz came on in the ninth and stranded runners on first and third to end the ball game.
The Broncos pick up the series sweep over the Thunder, their first sweep of the season and have now won four games in a row.
