Courtesy Xochitl Mora,
The first One City, One Book group discussion of the book, “Into the Beautiful North,” by Luis Alberto Urrea will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library HEB Multi-Purpose Room, 1120 E. Calton Road. The group discussion is an informal setting, allowing for all to participate freely. The book, a fictional work, takes a light-hearted approach to life’s obstacles, allowing the characters to believe they can solve their problems if they just keep trying. Literacy, hunger, civic pride, borders and immigration are the themes that will be addressed. Show up and share your reaction to this powerful story. Please bring five non-perishable food items, as well. The book is available in both English and Spanish and can be checked out or purchased at the Laredo Public Library. For more information, contact Pam Burrell at the Laredo Public Library at 795-2400,x2268.
