Canseco pitches scoreless eighth, Wings score in the first seven innings and defeat the Broncos 17-4

(August 24th, HARLINGEN, TX) -The White Wings (44-42) scored in every inning from the first through the seventh, scoring 17 runs on 20 hits against the Broncos (44-42) to force a tie for third place in the United League.

 The Broncos entered Tuesday leading the White Wings by only one game and sent RHP Robert Roth (2-5) to the mound to get back in the win column against Rio Grande Valley, who countered with RHP Misael Dejesus (8-5).

 The Broncos, courtesy of an infield hit and an error had a runner at second and nobody out. Maiko Loyola dropped a sacrifice bunt down that moved Diaz third and Pacheco knocked him in with an RBI ground out to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.

 The Wings, against Roth in the bottom half of the first took the lead after Javis Diaz started the inning with a single and stole second base.  A passed ball moved Diaz over to third base Yeury Tejeda tied the game with an RBI single to make the score 1-1.  Leivi Ventura then singled and a wild pitch by Roth moved both runners up to second and third. Tejeda then came home to score on another wild pitch by Roth and the Wings had a 2-1 lead.

 The Broncos were bit by the long ball in the top of the second, back to back solo home run by Salvador Paniagua and Carlos Arroyo gave the Broncos the lead back; 3-2.

 In the bottom of the second Roth started the inning and walked the first two batters he faced. Manager Dan Firova went to the bullpen and brought in LHP Brian Buchanan (6-4) who had Roberto Rodriguez drop a sacrifice bunt down to move both runners up a bag.  Javis Diaz hit an infield RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.  Luany Sanchez then hit an RBI single to give the Wings the 4-3 lead and Yeury Tejeda hit an RBI fielder’s choice that made the score 5-3 Wings. Tejeda ended up at second base courtesy of a throwing error by Jason Diaz.  Leivi Ventura knocked in Tejeda with an RBI double to complete the scoring for the inning; White Wings led 6-3.

 The Broncos were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the third and in the bottom half of the frame the Wings continued their offensive barrage.  Buchanan allowed a single, an RBI triple, and an RBI double before being pulled from the game with the score 8-3 Wings.  RHP Alex Morales (1-1) entered for the Broncos and did not allow another run in the inning.

 In the top of the fourth the Broncos had their best chance to mount a comeback. They had the bases loaded with with two outs and stranded all three runners on the base paths.

 The Wings added a run in the bottom of the fourth, with two outs and the bases empty Arlon Quiroz walked and stole second base.  Eric Gonzalez knocked in Quiroz with an RBI single to make the score 9-3 Wings.

 Morales remained on the mound for his third inning of work in the bottom of the fifth and after retiring Javis Diaz on a fly out Morales walked Luany Sanchez. Yeury Tejeda then hit a two run homer to make the score 11-3 Wings. Tejeda had four RBI up to this point in the ball game.

 In the bottom of the sixth the Wings continued the consecutive innings streak of scoring at least one run. Four more runs came home against LHP Thomas Vessella (0-1).  A hit batsman started the inning, followed by a single and a three run homer off the bat of Sanchez.  Tejeda then hit a double and Leivi Ventura knocked him in with an RBI single and the Wings lead was 15-3.

 The Wings added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI ground out by Roberto Rodriguez and a sacrifice fly by Javis Diaz to push the White Wing lead to 17-3.

 Jose Canseco pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth, the only Bronco pitcher in the ball game who did not allow a run as the Wings scored in every inning first through the seventh.

 The Broncos in the top of the ninth loaded the bases with no out and brought home one run on a sacrifice fly by Jason Diaz to make the final score 17-4 Wings.
