Broncos win their third series in a row, magic number down to four

The Broncos offense put up 15 runs on 15 hits, paced by Jose Canseco who went 2 for 4 with a double and a two run homer with four runs driven in for the Broncos. The Broncos remain two games ahead of the White Wings for third place in the United League. The Broncos sent RHP Juan Peralta (9-2) to the mound to try and win the series against the Road Runners. Edinburg countered with RHP Eric Montoya (9-5) in the series finale.
The Broncos wasted no time scoring runs against Montoya, in the top of the first Jason Diaz reached on an infield single, and Maiko Loyola singled right behind him. After a Pacheco strikeout Jose Canseco hit a two run double to give the Broncos the early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second against Montoya, the Broncos added to their lead. Nick Mahin worked a walk to start the inning and moved to second on a ground out by Jason Diaz. Maiko Loyola then walked and Jonel Pacheco hit a two out three run homer over the left-center field wall to give the Broncos the 5-0 lead.
The Road Runners cracked the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the third. After Robert Matlock struck out to start the frame, Eddie Wilson walked. Wilmer Pino hit a double and Felix Molina brought them both home with a two run single to cut the lead to 5-2 Broncos.
Montoya settled down after allowing two runs in the top of the first and three runs in the top of the second. He retired nine in a row from the third inning through the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the fifth the Road Runners brought home another run on three hits and a balk charged to Juan Peralta that cut the Bronco lead to 5-3.
The Broncos started the top of the sixth with a bang, three straight singles brought a run home after a wild pitch put runners on second ad third and Nick Mahin reached on an RBI infield single to make it 6-3 Broncos. With one out Jason Diaz then brought home both runners with a two run double to make it 8-3 Broncos. Maiko Loyola knocked in Diaz with an RBI triple to add a run and make the score 9-3 Broncos. Road Runners manager Vince Moore went to his bullpen and brought in RHP Evan Cunningham (1-1) who allowed an RBI single to Jonel Pacheco, his fourth RBI of the game and the score was 10-3 Broncos, Jose Canseco was the next hitter and he hit a towering home run over the Broncos bullpen to make it a 12-3 Broncos lead.
RHP James Maxwell (1-0) came into the game in the bottom of the seventh and walked Wilmer Pino to lead off the inning. Felix Molina then hit a two run homer, his sixth of the year to make it a 12-5 Bronco lead. Maxwell hunkered down and did not allow another run in the inning.
Carlos Arroyo, in the top of the eighth against Cunningham hit a three run homer, his ninth of the year to give the Broncos the 15-5 lead.
LHP Thomas Vessella (0-1) came on for the Broncos in the bottom of the eighth and the Road Runners tacked on a run after a double play ball put a runner on third with two outs Felix Molina knocked in Matlock with an RBI single to cut the Bronco lead to 15-6.
RHP Reyes Dorado (2-0) came on in the ninth for the Broncos and pitched a scoreless inning to secure the 15-6 Broncos victory.

The Broncos have now won 11 of their last 12 contests and have been victorious in their last three series. Laredo now heads to Harlingen for a five game show down with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings. The Wings currently trail the Broncos by two games for third place in the United League.
