Broncos use a five run seventh inning to defeat the Road Runners, win their ninth in a row

(August 19th, EDINBURG, TX)-The Broncos plated five runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh and held on for the 6-3 victory.  The Broncos are winners of nine in a row and are now only six games back of the Road Runners for first place and will hold their three game lead for third place in the United League standings.

The Broncos began their nine game road trip in Edinburg, taking on the first place Road Runners for a four game series.  The Broncos, winners of eight in a row and two consecutive come from behind victories, sent RHP Robert Roth (2-4) to the mound for game one of the four game series with Edinburg.  The Road Runners countered with RHP Time Haines (3-10).

In the bottom of the first against Roth, Wilmer Pino walked to start off the game.  The very next batter, Felix Molina hit an RBI triple and two batters into the game the Road Runners took a 1-0 lead over the Broncos.  nelson Teilan then ground out to bring home Molina from third for the first out of the inning and the Road Runner lead was 2-0.

The Broncos got on the board in the top of the third when Mike Murphy worked a walk to start the inning. D.J Dixon then singled and that moved Murphy to third base.  Jonel Pacheco came up and knocked in Murphy with a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 ball game, Road Runners in the lead.

In the bottom half of the third inning Roth allowed back to back walks to the Road Runners, Wilmer Pino and Felix Molina to put runners on first and second. Edinburg then orchestrated a double steal that moved both runners up a bag.  Paniagua, the Broncos catcher threw to third base and Jonathan Cisneros was charged with a fielding error that allowed Pino to come and score an unearned run and give the ‘Runners a 3-1 lead. 

Neither team scored in the next three frames, as Roth for the Broncos, and Haines for the Road Runners kept the offenses off balance.

In the top of the seventh the Broncos finally got to Haines.  Maiko Loyola singled and stole second base to lead things off.  Michael Murphy then grounded out and and D.J Dixon flew out out.  Jonathan Cisneros lined a two run double into the right-center field gap to tie the game against Haines 3-3.  Salvador Paniagua was the next batter and he lined an RBI single back up the middle to give the Broncos their first lead of the ball game 4-3.  That spelled the end of the night for Haines, he departed in line for the loss.  The new pitcher that emerged from the Road Runner bullpen was RHP Riccardo Serrano () who allowed a two run homer to Carlos Arroyo on the first pitch to make it a 6-3 Bronco lead. In all the Broncos brought home five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh.

RHP Maximinio De La Cruz came on for the Broncos in the bottom of the seventh and allowed one walk but did not allow the Road Runners to score a run. 

The Broncos in the top of the eighth stranded Ryan Flynn at third base, after Flynn reached second base on a throwing error by the shortstop Felix Molina and Maiko Loyola dropped down a sacrifice bunt. Murphy and Dixon both, then ground out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth De La Cruz began the inning and allowed two singles with a fielder’s choice in the middle. Runners at first and third and one out, manager Dan Firova went to his bullpen and brought in the lefty Thomas Vessella (0-1). Vince Moore countered with a pinch hitter.  Daryl Jones saw one pitch from Vessella and he grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.

RHP Reyes Dorado (2-0) came on in the bottom of the ninth to close out the Bronco victory and he did just that, retiring the Road Runners 1-2-3 to pick up his sixth save of the year.

The Bronco’s win their third game in row in come from behind fashion, tonight coming back from down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh. The Broncos have won nine in a row and improve their record to 9-4 against the Road Runners.
