Broncos hang on to win 15-14 over Wings; magic number down to 1

(August 27th, HARLINGEN, TX)-The Broncos survived the late surge by the White Wings to hold on to the 15-14 victory and bring their magic number down to 1 to clinch a playoff spot in the United League. The Broncos entered the series finale with the White Wings needing a win and a San Angelo Colts loss to clinch a playoff spot in the United League.  RHP Juan Peralta (9-2) made his 16th start of the year for the Broncos, squaring off against RHP Johnny Montoya (1-2). 

 The Broncos in the top of the first brought home four runs on three hits and three walks issued by Johnny Montoya.  Salvador Paniagua picked up an RBI walk to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead followed by a two run single by Carlos Arroyo and an RBI single by Nick Mahin to complete the four run inning for the Broncos.

 The Wings in the bottom half of the first scored five runs to take a 5-4 lead against Peralta and the Broncos.  Javis Diaz led off the inning with a solo home run to make te score 4-1 Broncos.  Back to back singles by Luany Sanchez and Yeury Tejeda put runnera at first and second for Brian Nichols, who singled home a run to make the score 4-2 Broncos.  Arlon Quiroz worked a base loaded walk to bring home the third run of the inning for the Wings and make the score 4-3 Broncos.  Eric Gonzalez hit a ground ball to third base. Cisneros came home with his throw and retired Nichols at the plate. Paniagua threw wide of first base trying to complete a double play and Welington Dotel and Arlon Quiroz came home to score and give the Wings the 5-4 lead. 

 The Broncos wasted no time in taking the lead back, in the top of the second they brought home five runs on an RBI single by D.J Dixon, An RBI single by Jonathan Cisneros, who later scored on an error by the center fielder Javis Diaz, and a two run homer by Carlos Arroyo. The Broncos led 9-5 after the five run inning.

 The Wings added a run against Maximinio De La Cruz in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Yeury Tejeda to make it 9-6 Broncos.

 RHP Ruben De La Rosa () came on and in the top of sixth allowed five runs to the Broncos offense. A two run double by D.J Dixon brought home the first two runs of the inning, followed by a two run home run by Jonel Pacheco, a sacrifice fly by Nick Mahin, and an RBI single by Ryan Flynn, in all the Broncos led 15-6.

 The Wings brought home seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 15-13 ball game; Broncos in the lead.  Leivi Ventura hit his 24th home run of the season followed by a Brian Nichols home run to cap off the scoring

 RHP Reyes Dorado came on in the eighth to close out the inning and stayed on in the bottom of the ninth.  Dorado allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth on the infield single by Yuki Matsumoto to make it a 15-14 Bronco lead but got Yuery Tejeda to ground into a game ending fielders choice.
