Broncos Fall to Colts Remain One Game Away from Fourth Place

(August 4th, SAN ANGELO, TX) – The Broncos (31-36) allowed 13 hits and 12 runs to the Colts (35-31) and now trail San Angelo two games to none in their game series but remain just one game back of Rio Grande Valley for fourth place in the United League. The Broncos looking to even the series against the Colts sent RHP Robert Roth (1-3) to the plate against RHP Chandler Barnard (6-2) for San Angelo. 

 In the bottom of the first after the Broncos went in order in the top of the inning the Colts, scored two runs. The first on a wild pitch charged to Roth and the second on an RBI single by Jason Crosland that fell in between Ryan Flynn and Doug Thennis and the score was 2-0 Colts.

 The Broncos in the top of the second tied the game. D.J Dixon hit his second solo homerun in as many games here in San Angelo to put the Broncos on the board.  Nick Mahin then doubled off Barnard and came home to score on the RBI single by Doug Thennis to tie the game at 2-2.

 The Broncos defense was charged with two errors in the bottom of the second inning.  An error by Jason Diaz allowed David Cardona to reach base, and after a Butch Ballez double, Cardona came home on the sacrifice fly by Isaac Garcia to give the Colts the 3-2 lead.  Mark Ramos then reached on error charged to Jonathan Cisneros at third base that allowed Butch Ballez to score from third and give the Colts the 4-2 lead.

 In the bottom of the third the Colts took a walk against Roth, followed by a single by Trey Carter and a single by David Cardona that increased the Colt lead to 5-2.  Manager Dan Firova went to his bullpen and brought in the lefty Brian Buchanan (6-4).  Buch Allowed an RBI single to Butch Ballez and the score was 6-2 Colts.  Buchanan, with the bases loaded walked two Colts in a row to bring home two more runs for San Angelo and make the lead 8-2.

 RHP Eric Eden (1-2) came into the game with two outs in the third and recorded the final out of the inning.  Eden stayed in the game and in his 2.1 innings pitched he allowed just one hit, walked none and struck out none allowing no runs out of the bullpen.

 LHP Michael Haddad (0-0) entered the game in the sixth and allowed a run on the RBI single by Trey Carter to make the score 9-2.  Haddad came back out in the seventh and allowed three more runs to the Colts on an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines, a sacrifice fly by Josh Collazzo, and an RBI double by Jason Crosland to make the lead 12-2 Colts.

 In the top of the eighth the Broncos added a run on a double play ball that scored Jonathan Dziomba, who pinch hit for Ryan Flynn, from third base and cut the lead to 12-3 Colts.   

 That was as close as he Broncos got to the Colts in game two of the four game series, falling 12-3.
