 On Monday August 23, 2010 at approximately 6:30 am the Laredo Police Dispatch received a call of a domestic assault in progress at a home in the Cheyenne subdivision at the 3900 block of Chickasaw.  The information was that an 18 year old male was physically assaulting his mother.  When Police arrived they found that the 18 year old, identified later as James Edward Vasquez, had left the scene and had gone into the brush.  He was reportedly armed with a semi-automatic Ak-47 assault style rifle. Officers saturated the immediate area in order to search for the subject.  This time was especially crucial because neighboring areas had children returning to class for the first day of school.  Officers at the scene summoned the assistance of LPD K-9 units and assistance from the Laredo Border Patrol agents on the ground and also assistance from the aerial unit to assist from above.  After searching for close to 2 hrs the subject was located hiding in the brush near Villa del Sol subdivision.  The reported assault rifle was also found near the area where the subject was arrested.  Vasquez faces Aggravated Assault /with a weapon family violence, Resisting Arrest, Interfering with an emergency call, evading arrest.  The Laredo Police Department would like to extend a special thanks to the U.S. Border Patrol for assisting us with this apprehension and for always being available when it counts.
