OPERATION LONE STAR 2010

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

LAREDO, TX-Considered one of the largest humanitarian missions, Operation Lone Star (OLS) will be conducting free health clinics during its 12th annual effort to provide health services to people in South Texas. OLS will be conducted August 2-6, 2010 at Alexander High School.  OLS is a collaborative project uniting state health and human services agencies, the Texas State Guard, Army and Air National Guard, the City of Laredo, the Laredo Health Department, local services groups, schools and civilian volunteers to provide the largest public health humanitarian effort in the country.

Operation Lone Star serves as a full-blown emergency response exercise for state and local officials; it provides disaster recovery training to many while serving thousands of underserved and underinsured residents in real-life

OLS offers a variety of free medical services, including immunizations, sports physicals, high blood pressure screenings, diabetic screenings, limited dental services, limited vision exams, limited pharmaceutical services, medical referrals, oral health education and preventive health education.  In 2007-2009, OLS provided 49,379 free medical and dental services and procedures to 16,306 children and adults.

  • Get your immunizations.  Immunizations are required by law for children and teenagers in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, child care facilities, colleges and universities. Bring your immunization record and beat the back to school rush by immunizing your child now.
  • Everyone is invited to come for physicals, school physicals, medical and limited vision and dental exams.
  • Early detection screening services for diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Preventive health and oral health education.
